304 and 316 stainless steel

Rarelon wants to teach you the difference between 304 &316 stainless steel. These are two of the strongest metals, but they have some key differences. Having an all-round idea about what metal to use for your project can actually ensure the success of it as well as durability.

304 or 316 Stainless Steel?

So what are these metals made of, and how does it enter into your decision process for choosing 304 or 316 stainless steel? The 304 stainless steel has 18% chromium and 8% nickel. In contrast, 316 stainless steel consists of 16% chromium, 10% nickel and also 2% molybdenum. Molybdenum in the 316 stainless steel is unique because it functions as a strengthening agent and corrosion-resistant booster. That means in situations where the metal might have wetting or wind driven salty air, 316 stainless steel can be a better option.
