РАРЛОН Steel is such an essential material that we use everywhere. Steel is used in buildings, cars, bridges, and even in tools. The source for this hard material is iron ore, a naturally occurring mineral located throughout much of the world. But how does that ore, which is really just a rock, become the steel of the everyday? This guide will explain the steps in the steel-making process to provide a simple but detailed explanation of how we go from ore to finished steel.
The Steps from Ore to Steel
Mining and refinement — iron making — steel making — finishing; those are the four basic steps by which we convert raw iron ore into finished steel. All these steps are significant and require various machines as well as techniques to convert the raw materials into steel for our daily lives.
Step 1: Mining and Refining
Getting iron ore from underground is the first thing you need to do in order to make steel. You can do this in two different ways. For this, one method is open-pit mining, which consists of big holes being excavated in the ground to be able to find the ore. The other method is known as underground mining, in which miners enter tunnels to extract the ore. When we obtain the iron ore, it needs to be purified from other substances which known as impurities. This smelting process helps to prepare the ore for iron-making.
Step 2: Making Iron
Once we have purified the iron ore, is time for the next stage: production of iron. We have to use a particular furnace in which we melt the cleaned iron ore with some other minerals in this process. The ore produced is called pig iron when they are melted. Although pig iron is tough, it is also quite hard and incredibly brittle. That means, not steel. at all. the steel we need, right now. We have a few more steps between us and steel of the right flexibility, functionality.
Step 3: Making Steel
Once we have our pig iron, the next step is to convert it into steel. Different processes also exist to convert pig iron into steel. A famous technique is known as the basic oxygen process. In this process, the pig iron is melted by oxygen and converted in liquid steel by reduction of the excess carbon. The other process is called electric furnace, a method in which we take old steel and scrap metal to melt down into new steel. Recycling materials and producing fresh, robust steel products is one of the benefits of this process.
Чекор 4: Завршување
The steel must then be refined into its finished form. Finishing is a necessary step in order Производи од алуминиум to provide heavy steel materials with particular needs and requirements. These processes can involve heating the steel to alter its properties, controlled cooling, or simply a coat that prevents rust formation. The final step is simply cutting and forming the steel into the finished products for people to use. That is the process that gets it ready to be steel for construction, manufacturing and more.
The Complete Knowledge of Process
DONATE EXCLUSIVE COURSES Energy and Производи од нерѓосувачки челик: It starts with extracting the iron ore out of the ground, either in an open-pit mine, or from underground tunnels. Once we have the ore, we take it to a refinery and any impurities, particularly sulfur and phosphorus are removed. Resulting in high-quality iron ore for our end use.
Iron Making → When the iron ore has been processed, we put in into our big furnace or blast furnace and it will melt. We then mix it with limestone and coke which aids in producing pig iron. Pig iron has great strength but still requires processing time to convert it into steel.
Steel MT: The pig iron is processed in a special furnace (converter) or electric arc furnace. We melt it down here, combined with other materials such as old steel and scrap metal. Now we have molten steel, which can be poured into molds to form different shapes such as beams for buildings or parts for cars.
Finishing: After we form the steel, we gradually cool it down and treat it to impart specific characteristics like strength and ability to bend. These range from heat treatment and rust resistant surface coatings to simply cutting and shaping to ensure that it is suited to customer requirements.
